Iporuru is a shrubby tree found in the lower elevations and floodplains of the Amazon with light brown bark and violet colored flowers. The leaves and bark must be harvested during the dry season as it spends the rainy season under water. While not much official research has been done on the Iporuru, initial results have shown it to contain steroids, saponins, phenols, flavonols, flavones, tannins, xanthones, and alkaloids.
