A stunning jungle vine that clambers high into the forest canopy, Clavo Huasca (or clove vine) has large sections with distinctive markings and a mild fragrance of clove. It produces very small, white flowers and long, flat, bean-like fruits. It is one of the more famous botanical vines in the upper Amazon, and is often cultivated near village huts. When the wood of the vine is cross-sectioned, there is a distinct pattern that resembles the Maltese cross. Commonly used as an aphrodisiac for men and women.*
