Why is there no amount per serving stated? how many mg of organic maca root in 1/4 teaspoon?

    • Thanks Mel W,
Used as a food supplement the typical serving size can vary anywhere from one 500 mg capsule to a full tablespoon of dried powder. Since maca is used as a food in Peru and made into bread, soups and smoothies, sometimes people in the Andes mountains will consume several small roots in a day. This can amount to nearly two full tablespoons of dried powder. As a general rule we recommend a very low dosage on our labels to satisfy the FDA label requirements in the USA. Our packages usually state that 1/4 of a teaspoon be the starting dosage. I occasionally use 4 – 6 capsules a day, or, one or two teaspoons of power in a drink. Sometimes that amount used daily can feel like too much after a couple days and I will uses less or skip some days. The best way to try maca if you are unsure is to use 2 capsules with water. Or 1/4 a spoonful. That’s a good starting point for most people and you can occasionally increase that dose if you enjoy the extra energy.
To answer your other question: A teaspoon can hold about 5 grams. This is equal to 500 milligrams. So, if there are 500 mg in 1 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon would contain one fourth of this value; 1/4 x 500 = 125 Hence, there are 125 milligrams in one fourth of a teaspoon. This can vary a little due to factors such as the growing conditions from year to year. Some years the roots can be denser than other years.
I apologize for not providing with a more exacting answer, maca is often used a food supplement and the dosage can vary from person to person.
