Catuaba is a flowering tree found in the Amazon jungle. Indigenous people have used Catuaba for generations. It is thought to be one of the most famous of the Brazilian aphrodisiac plants. Brazil’s native Tupi tribe first discovered this quality of catuaba bark hundreds of years ago. They have even composed many songs praising its abilities. In the northern Amazon, natives have all used Catuaba to support the central nervous system and as a general tonic. While no clinical research has validated the traditional use of Catuaba as an aphrodisiac, it continues to be used widely for its supposed ability to enhance sexual drive and increase libido in both men and women. Catuaba contains alkaloids, tannins, aromatic oils and fatty resins, phytosterols, cyclolignans, sequiterpenes, and flavonoids.
